Led by Debby Sandow, a retired teacher of textile crafts ranging from upholstery via soft furnishing to passementerie and rug making , our team spend their Monday afternoons in the cathedral, using a variety of skills to support the upkeep of the Cathedral.
Originally recruited to stop the advance of moth damage to the canvas work cushions, stools and seats, the task has entailed stripping, cleaning, repairing and then replacing all the material underneath with fire retardant compliant materials.
Our skills have ranged from simple stripping down to upholstery, repairing the moth damage, and advanced machining, and a little “unpicking”!
Please do take a look next time you are in the Cathedral - and let us know if you can help....
